Latest Updates from Our Project:

Shipping & Fulfillment Update #4
about 4 years ago – Sat, Mar 07, 2020 at 01:04:19 AM

Hello to all of our backers!

Let's jump right into the current update on the fulfillment of your Sketchnote Ideabooks.

European Countries (UK, EU, Switzerland, Norway):

The ship with the Ideabooks made it to the dock on February 23rd and was unloaded on-schedule between the 23rd and 24th.

The shipping container containing the Ideabooks was then chosen to be checked by the UK customs office. (I just found out about this on Tuesday evening and have been waiting for specifics before sharing them with everyone.) We do not know specifically why this happened, but it was likely just some may have just been some random routine inspection. The customs review process added about a week to the timeframe described in Update #21.

(Government efficiency at its best, huh? Joking aside, customs inspections are important for safety… you just never want to be on the receiving end of them.)

The Ideabook pallets have since been then loaded onto a truck and shipped to Quartermaster Logistics’ (QML) counterpart in the UK, Spiral Logistics. The Ideabooks are now set to arrive at Spiral by Monday or Tuesday of next week.

It will take Spiral a few days to break down the pallets of Ideabooks and onboard them into their inventory management system. I have requested that they get themselves ready to ship everything immediately.

I apologize for not giving more information sooner, but up until Tuesday afternoon (3rd of February) I was under the impression that everything was following the process I had outlined in Update #21. The surprise customs review was, well, a surprise… but we are through that now thankfully.

I have asked QML to let me know as soon as the shipment arrives at Spiral, and then provide me with the shipping tracking numbers so I can send them to our European backers.

Your Ideabooks have sailed upon the seas, fared two major storms, passed through government inspection, and they are now in the last leg of their journey. If there was anything I could do to get them to you sooner I would (and I have tried), but soon every Ideabook will be its new home.

Thank you all for your continued patience. If you have questions, email me at [email protected].

United States, Canada, Australia & New Zealand:

According to our tracking numbers, every one of you should have received your Ideabooks by now (unless we have emailed each other directly and resolved whatever shipping error occurred).

A number of you have reached out to Mike or me personally to thank us. We are immensely grateful for your messages and we are very happy to have been able to provide you all a product you enjoy so much.

If you did not receive your Ideabook, then please email me ASAP at [email protected].

China, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam:

As I mentioned in the last update: You all should have received your Ideabooks a while ago! How are they? Do you like them?

We’d love to hear from you, so feel free to send me an email at [email protected].

Rest of the World:

I just checked all of the tracking numbers before posting this update, and 2 or 3 of you may still be waiting for your parcels to arrive.

It could be that your country does not pass tracking information back to the US Postal Service, but based on what I see the parcels are still in one of 3 locations:

  • 1) In your home country and in transit to you;
  • 2) In transit to your home country because it had to travel through a transfer station; or
  • 3) In your hands right now because you already received them... and you cannot put it down.

If you are not sure where your Ideabook is right now or if you have questions, email me at [email protected].

----------

Last leg of the journey everyone. Complete fulfillment is just around the corner!

Questions? Comments? Please email me at [email protected]. Even if it is in a different language, I will do my best to answer you! (I will be using Google Translate... so please be patient.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Shipping & Fulfillment Update #3
about 4 years ago – Sat, Feb 22, 2020 at 12:09:16 AM

Hello Backers!

See below for detailed updates on the fulfillment of your Sketchnote Ideabooks.

United States:

I believe everyone should have their Ideabooks by this time, unless you have not paid for shipping through Backerkit, or if you have only paid for shipping recently .

If you do not have your Ideabooks and you have paid for shipping, then please e-mail me at [email protected].

Canada:

We learned this past week that was not specifically initially explained to us about how Quartermaster Logistics (QML) shipped the Ideabooks to Canada. When your FedEx labels were created, the packages were not mailed out directly to you from the QML warehouse in Florida.

Each individual package was sorted at QML and pre-labeled, then all of the Canada-bound packages were shipped via FedEx International Ground (IGD) to a FedEx facility in Woodbridge, Ontario, along with several other shipments from QML.

Entry costs were paid upon the freight entering Canada, so once the Ideabooks made it over the border, the individual packages to our Canadian backers were able to ship WITHOUT these additional charges. Instead, once the Ideabooks arrived in Woodbridge, they would just ship as individual Canada to Canada shipment.

If we were to send parcels individually via FedEx, they would have been more individually much more expensive. By sending everything as a single international shipment, we helped to save you money on shipping costs.

The pallet of Ideabook packages that were shipped from QML made it to the FedEx facility in Woodbridge, Ontario yesterday. Since then, FedEx parsed out the packages from the pallets and proceeded to send the already labeled packages to all of our Canadian backers.

Now that the Ideabooks are in Canada and FedEx has sent them on their merry way, the tracking numbers we sent you should show movement and you will be able to see when the packages should arrive.

Sorry for the delay, but the process did save you money in the long run. Hazzah!

Questions? Email me at [email protected].

European Countries (UK, EU, Switzerland, Norway):

The Sketchnote Ideabooks made it to port in the United Kingdom on time on February 16, 2020.

As it has been explained to us, there were some storms that passed through in the days leading up to February 16th, which slowed down the “traffic” of ships in the port. This traffic resulted in a longer queue of ships waiting to dock and unload their cargo.

The ship transporting your Ideabooks is essentially waiting in line to dock to unload its cargo.  Current estimates show that the ship should be unloaded between today and Monday, February 24th. It will then take a few days to get the Ideabooks from port to the warehouse for distribution.

You will receive emails about tracking numbers for shipments as soon as I receive that information from Quartermaster Logistics.

Questions? Email me at [email protected].

Australia:

Everyone in Australia should have received their Ideabooks by this time, unless you also ordered Airship Autoquill pens as an add-on.

For those Australia backers that ordered the pens, your Autoquill pens have finally met their Ideabooks companions and should be in transit by Monday, February 24th. The reasoning for this was included in a personal email that I sent to each of you. If you did not receive that email and want to know more, send me an email at [email protected] and I will you know.

Likewise, if you have questions or if you have not received your Ideabooks yet, email me at [email protected].

New Zealand:

I just checked the tracking numbers for all of the New Zealanders and it appears that they are in transit via Australia Post to you. I sent all of you emails with your tracking number, but if you need more information, feel free to email me at [email protected].

China, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam:

You all should have received your Ideabooks a while ago! How are they? Do you like them?

If you have not received them, send me an email at [email protected].

Rest of the World:

Your parcels should be in one of three general locations:

  • 1) In your home country and in transit to you;
  • 2) In transit to your home country because it had to travel through a transfer station; or
  • 3) In your hands right now because you already received them... and you cannot put it down.

If you are not sure where your Ideabook is right now or if you have questions, email me at [email protected].

SURPRISE!

Some of our backers in the United States may have noticed that you received Airship Autoquill pens in your packages even if you did not order them... surprise! I had to send a carton of 200 of the pens to Quartermaster Logistics (QML) and had a few leftover. Instead of just asking QML send me the pens back, I picked backers at random to receive the pens (using Random.org, in case anyone was curious). There are a few backers in Canada and Europe that will also receive them in their parcels, too.

Just in case you were unsure whether you ordered them or not, the lucky winners are listed below. I've included only first names and where they are from in case people want to remain anonymous:

  • Matthew from Wausau, WI
  • Matthew from Baldwinsville, NY
  • Rhett from Highland, UT
  • Tammy from Dassel, MN
  • Mary from Poplar Grove, IL
  • Peter from Edinboro, PA
  • Nina from Richmond, CA
  • Catherine from Santa Fe, NM
  • Tiffany from Hastings on Hudson, NY
  • Dustin from Wyandotte, MI
  • Naomi from Watertown, SD
  • Brad from Macon, GA
  • Ana from Kansas City, MO
  • Gina from Sooke, BC, Canada
  • Antonio from Oakville, ON, Canada
  • Matthias from Niederlenz, Switzerland
  • Peter from Wehrheim, Germany
  • Vincent from Gières, France
  • Lisa from Sutton Coldfield, UK
  • Grant from Cheltenham, UK
  • Emily from Nottingham, UK
  • Dimitris from Sitia, Crete, Greece

Sooo close to full & complete fulfillment!

Questions? Comments? Please email me at [email protected]. (Have I mentioned that enough, yet?) Even if it is in a different language, I will do my best to answer you! (I will be using Google Translate... so please be patient.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Shipping & Fulfillment Update #2
about 4 years ago – Fri, Feb 07, 2020 at 10:57:03 AM

Hi Everyone!

See below for detailed updates on the fulfillment of your Sketchnote Ideabooks.

United States & Canada:

Quartermaster Logistics has begun the process of fulfilling your shipments today! They should be done by today, February 7, 2020.

You will receive an email from Quartermaster’s Customer Service team to let you know that a shipment has been created and to provide the tracking number.

I expect it will take 5 to 7 business days (or less depending on where you live) for the packages to arrive for US backers, and 7 to 10 business days (or less depending on where you live) for Canada backers.

If you have questions, please reach out at [email protected].

European Countries (UK, EU, Switzerland, Norway):

As discussed in Update #19, the ocean freight shipment from China will arrive in the United Kingdom next week. Since we are much closer to that date, I can say with more certainty that the shipment should be in port and ready to unload sometime between the 14th and the 17th of February.

The date that the ship arrives “in port” and the date that the ship is unloaded varies depending on the port and the time of year.

From there, the shipment will take about a week to get from port to the warehouse for processing, then another week before Quartermaster’s counterpart in the UK begins fulfillment to the backers.

I will keep you posted as I learn anything new. If you have questions, please reach out at [email protected].

Australia & New Zealand:

The shipment of Ideabooks arrived in Australia two weeks ago. Quartermaster’s counterpart in Australia, Aetherworks, took about a week to review the items and enter the orders into their system, then I went through all of them to confirm all of the backer information.

Quartermaster has told me that fulfillment to backers in Australia and New Zealand started this week! The next communication you will receive from us will be an email with your tracking information, which we will be able to do as soon as we receive the information from Aetherworks.

(Just to remind you of something mentioned in the last update:  If you ordered Airship Autoquill pens as an add-on through Backerkit, I believe those pens may arrive separately.)

If you have questions, please reach out at [email protected].

China, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam:

You should have received your Ideabooks by now! If you have not received the Ideabook, send me an email at [email protected].

Rest of the World:

Quartermaster Logistics has begun the process of fulfilling your shipments! They should be done by today, February 7, 2020.

You will receive an email from Quartermaster’s Customer Service team to let you know that a shipment has been created and to provide the tracking number.

I expect it will take 8 to 14 business days (or less) to get to you. This will depend on your location and how long your local customs office will take to process the shipment.

If you have questions, please reach out at [email protected].

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Shipping & Fulfillment Update
over 4 years ago – Wed, Jan 22, 2020 at 09:30:55 PM

Hello to all of our awesome (and patient) Kickstarter Backers:

Mike Schiano of Airship Notebooks here. Sorry that it has been a while since the last comprehensive shipping update. I have been working to get updates on the shipments for every region, while also making sure that the Ideabooks are actually shipping.

I'll give you the quick version of the update first, then go into more detail.

Executive Summary / TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read) Version

  • We had some shipment issues that were not our fault.
  • These issues resulted in some delays in shipping the Sketchnote Ideabooks.
  • We have done our best to not only fix the issues, but also account for & reverse the delays wherever possible.
  • You do not need to worry about the issues, because we fixed them.
  • The fulfillment process for the Ideabooks has started for some backers, and will continue over the next few weeks.
  • When your shipment goes out, you will be notified by email with shipping timeframes and tracking numbers.
  • We will be locking shipping addresses for everyone in three days (January 25, 2020). You will receive a warning email from Backerkit after this update in case you want to update your shipping address.

Extended Report & Update

There were some miscommunications early in the process between Quartermaster and myself, and also between Quartermaster and their counterparts in China. These miscommunications led me to believe that the Ideabooks had been put onto ships to be freighted across the ocean to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia earlier than they actually were.

When I found out about these miscommunications, I stepped in to push the process along. There is a lot that happened over the past few weeks to make up for the time that was lost…  I could get into the nitty-gritty details of the inherent complications of arranging international freight, the communication difficulties that exist in organizing several companies across multiple time zones, and what a lack of sleep can do to one’s brain… and I will elaborate if you backers would like me to describe all of that.

However, for now I can say that everything is on track and we have actual timeframes for the shipments, as described below. If you have specific questions, feel free to contact us at [email protected].

If that specific question is: “When will I get my Ideabook?” please review the details below first.

Status of Freight & Shipping

United States & Canada:

The boxes of Sketchnote Ideabooks have arrived in the United States this week. They are on their way to Quartermaster Logistics’ warehouse. Quartermaster currently estimates that it will take about 1-2 weeks to:

  • 1. Go through the receiving process (bringing the boxes of Ideabooks into their warehouse system);
  • 2. Pick-and-pack the Ideabooks and Airship Autoquill pens (if the pens were purchased as an add-on);
  • 3. Label them for shipping; and
  • 4. Send them out for shipping.

For those in the United States, it should then take about 5 to 7 days to actually arrive at your door. For Canadians, it should take about 7 to 9 days from the date the Ideabooks ship from Quartermaster Logistics’ warehouse.

You will receive emails with tracking information once the shipments go out.

You might ask: "Hey, how long can it take to ship things? Isn't it just as easy as putting it in an envelope and slapping a label on them?"

While placing stickers on envelopes is simple by itself, when you multiply that a few thousand times it slows down a bit. The 4 step process above is necessary to bring the Ideabooks into Quartermaster’s system and will ensure that everyone gets their Ideabooks.

When shipments start to go out, you will be notified with shipping timeframes and tracking numbers.

Europe:

The freight shipment to Europe was delayed for the longest period of time. I only found out about on Thursday, January 16th. It will be at least 3 weeks until the ship with the Sketchnote Ideabooks to gets to the United Kingdom.

From there, it will take about 1 to 2 weeks to be processed into the warehouse that is partnered with Quartermaster Logistics (following the same 4 steps indicated in the United States & Canada section), and about 3 to 9 days to get the Ideabooks to be delivered to you, depending on where you live in relation to the United Kingdom. When shipments start to go out, you will be notified with shipping timeframes and tracking numbers.

If you ordered Airship Autoquill Pens as an add-on, there is a chance you will receive those before you receive the books

Australia & New Zealand:

The Sketchnote Ideabooks are set to arrive in Australia on January 23rd. From there, it will take about 1 to 2 weeks to be processed into the warehouse that is partnered with Quartermaster Logistics. When shipments start to go out, you will be notified with shipping timeframes and tracking numbers.

China, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam:

Your Sketchnote Ideabooks have been shipped! You may have actually already received them. We were able to use a courier service to get these directly out of China. I tried to send these backers tracking information as soon as the Ideabooks were mailed, but there was a technical issue with updating Backerkit that we only just resolved. However, our priority was mailing your Ideabooks out before Chinese New Year so that you would not need to wait a few weeks to receive them.

You should receive tracking information in your email soon.

Rest of the World:

You will be on the same timeframe as the United States & Canada, as your shipments will leave from the United States, except that it could take up to 14 to 21 days for your Ideabooks to arrive (as opposed to the 5 to 7 days). That’s just how long the postal service will take to bring the Ideabooks to you.

When shipments start to go out, you will be notified with shipping timeframes and tracking numbers.

Backerkit Surveys

There are about 20 backers that have not completed their surveys on Backerkit. There are also 5 people whose credit cards have failed after providing their shipping addresses and shipping payment information. If you have not completed the survey, follow the link below to provide your address and pay for shipping costs.

https://sketchnote-ideabook.backerkit.com/

If you do not provide us with an address and pay for shipping, then we cannot send you your Ideabook... so please follow the link above and complete the survey to provide your address and pay for shipping. If you need help using Backerkit, please email me at [email protected].

I have helped several backers through the process and promise to reply within a few hours of receiving your email to assist you the best I can.

Shipping Addresses Will Be Locked Soon

We plan to lock all shipping addresses on Saturday, January 25, 2020. This will mean that you will no longer be able to update where you want your Sketchnote Ideabook(s) to be mailed. If you need to update your shipping address you can follow the link above, or check your email tomorrow, January 23, 2020. Backerkit will be sending out a link to allow you to check what address you inputted originally, and you can change the address if you need to. If you don’t need to change it, you do not need to do anything.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Thank you all for your support and patience.

Best Regards,

- Mike Schiano (with support from Project Partner, Mike Rohde)
